Tell us about the first time you were really inspired by music?
The first time I was inspired by music is when I heard Michael Jackson's "Off the Wall" album. The arrangements and playing on that album blew me away. What can I say Quincy Jones is a genius. I was only 8 years old at the time and after that I wanted to play piano.
What do you consider to be your greatest skill?
It depends who you talk to. Some would say my voice. I would say my mixing and knack of hearing what works in a record and what doesn't. Name two albums you keep very close to hand.
"Grace" Jeff Buckley "Purple Rain" Prince
The road to musical is often long and hard. Any advice for those out there, who want to jump in the same boat as you?
Only do it if you absolutely can't see your self doing anything else. You are going to need that kind of One eyed tunnel vision that will get you through the tuff times. Stay focused and know what you want to do. Have a plan with what your trying to achieve.
Have you ever come to a point that you thought you might pack in your music endeavours and get a day job? What made you decide to continue on? I tried the day job thing and it actually is working fine as I'm running my own mixing and mastering studio. I guess that's kind of cheating as it's still to do with music. hehe If I had to do another kind of day job that was not musically orientated I'd go crazy and become super depressed. Who inspires you? (both in life and in music)
All types of people inspire me in different ways and there is no 1 person or artist that does it all for me. It's bits and pieces of many that inspire the whole thing.
What elements do you think make up a good track? It's all about the groove at the end of the day. It's gotta move you. So that would be drums and bass to start with. All the other elements have to compliment those first.
Do you prefer performing live or recording? Why?
Performing live is a much better buzz as that's when you connect with the crowd and enjoy the exchange. The more they are up for it the more you want to give them.
How has your work changed and developed from the earlier stages of your career?
I've been more involved in mixing and mastering other people work these days and it gives me a great deal of satisfaction helping others achieve their goals. The early days were all about writing as many tunes as I could. Things change.
If you could pick 1 artist dead or alive to work with, who would it be? Why?
I'd like to work with Dave Tipper 1 day as he does things with his music that I've never heard before. His programming is beyond anything I've heard. It's not random glitch but carefully thought out musical sound design. A true genius.
Tell us a quirky fact about yourself no one else knows!
I have absolutely no idea. You would have to ask someone else that.
If you could have two wishes come true what would they be?
Winning the lotto would be one for sure. If the first one came true I could buy the second wish.
Before you step on stage for a gig, what do you do to prepare?
If I'm singing I would do scales for 10 mins before. If I'm Djing I'll drink 3 scotch and soda's before I go on.
What do your parents think of what you do? Have you ever taken them along to a gig?
It was hard at first but they got used to it in the end. I took them to a gig very early on in my career and they loved it. After that it was smooth sailing.
What has been your greatest achievement to date?
I have had many and I can't choose one. Playing at Fabric in London was definitely a highlight though.
If you could be remembered for one thing, what would it be?
writing tuuuuuuuuuuuuunnnnneeeezzzzz
What is your best hang over cure?
Gastrolite.
Do you get anxious or nervous before you perform? If so how do you calm your nerves?
It depends on the gig. Sometimes I might and I'll have a few to calm down and relax.
Having spent so much time on aeroplanes, are you an official member of the mile high club?
Not as yet.
